This document constitutes the consolidated version of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), together with the consolidated version of the Treaty on European Union (TEU), as published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The TFEU establishes the categories and areas of Union competence, sets out the Union's internal policies (including the internal market, competition, economic and monetary policy, and the area of freedom, security and justice), and governs the Union's external action and institutional framework. The document further incorporates 37 Protocols, two Annexes, and 65 Declarations annexed to the Final Act of the Intergovernmental Conference that adopted the Treaty of Lisbon, all forming an integral part of the primary law of the European Union.AI
