Commission Regulation (EC) No 530/2008 establishes emergency measures to address serious threats to bluefin tuna conservation by prohibiting fishing by purse seiners in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. The regulation bans fishing, retention on board, and transhipment for vessels registered in Greece, France, Italy, Cyprus, and Malta as of 16 June 2008, and for Spanish vessels as of 23 June 2008. These measures, which include restrictions on Community operators regarding landings and farming, are effective for a period of six months from the date of publication.AI
