European Commission 2 March 2017, Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1181 of 2 March 2017 amending Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/117 establishing fisheries conservation measures for the protection of the marine environment in the Baltic Sea and repealing Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/1778
Also known as
Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1181 amends Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/117 to extend fisheries conservation measures in the Baltic Sea by prohibiting the use of mobile bottom contacting gear in reef zones (habitat type 1170) and surrounding buffer zones within three additional Danish Natura 2000 sites (Areas 8, 9, and 10), adopted pursuant to Article 11(2) of Regulation (EU) No 1380/2013 on the Common Fisheries Policy and based on a joint recommendation submitted by Denmark, Sweden, Germany, and Poland. The Regulation replaces the Annex to Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/117 with updated coordinates defining ten restricted stone reef protection zones, and revises the review mechanism by establishing separate assessment deadlines: by 30 June 2017 for Areas 1–7 and by 31 October 2018 for Areas 8–10. Denmark is additionally required to conduct a compliance assessment no later than 18 months after the Regulation's entry into force, with enforcement to be supported by sea-going inspections, VMS monitoring, and automatic identification systems.AI
