Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/1168 amends Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) to clarify and expand derogations regarding the placing on the market of synthetic polymer microparticles. Key amendments include the inclusion of all medicinal products for human and veterinary use, a new exemption for product and process-oriented research and development (PPORD) under one tonne per year, and a one-year minimum duration requirement for microparticles incorporated into solid matrices. While the solid matrix provision applies from 22 June 2028, the medicinal product and PPORD derogations apply retroactively from 17 October 2023 to align with the original legislative intent.AI
