European Commission 14 July 2026, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1696 of 14 July 2026 renewing the approval of the active substance pelargonic acid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council, and amending Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011
Also known as
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1696 renews the approval of the active substance pelargonic acid (nonanoic acid; CAS No 112-05-0) under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, with effect from 1 October 2026 until 30 September 2041, on the basis that the approval criteria of Article 4 of that Regulation are satisfied for at least one representative use. Member States authorising plant protection products containing pelargonic acid must pay particular attention to the protection of groundwater in regions with vulnerable aquifers under predominantly alkaline soils, as well as to aquatic organisms, non-target arthropods including bees, and soil organisms, imposing risk mitigation measures where appropriate. Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011 is amended accordingly by modifying entry 230 on Fatty acids C7 to C20 in Part A to exclude pelargonic acid, which is separately listed as entry 181 in Part B with a specific purity specification requiring a minimum of 889 g/kg and limiting the sum of hexanoic, heptanoic, and octanoic acid impurities to less than 50 g/kg.AI
