Commission Communication updating the 2012 EU Bioeconomy Strategy, defining a sustainable and circular bioeconomy as encompassing biological resources, ecosystems, primary production and bio-based economic sectors. It sets out 14 actions, to be launched by 2019 at the latest, under three action areas: scaling bio-based sectors and investment, rapidly deploying local bioeconomies, and understanding ecological boundaries. Implementation is to promote sustainability, circularity, biodiversity protection, climate mitigation and regional development, with regular Commission reporting and adaptation or discontinuation of activities not satisfactorily contributing to the Strategy’s objectives.AI
