Since 1968, the Customs Union is one of the main success stories of the European Union and an essential pre-condition for the good functioning of the internal market. The Customs Union is an exclusive competence of the European Union. Customs legislation, such as the Union Customs Code (UCC) 1 , is adopted at EU level and implemented by the Member States’ customs administrations.
