Also known as
This Commission Communication (COM(2026) 501 final), dated 3 June 2026, establishes a Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and AI in the EU Energy Sector, structured around three pillars: (I) sustainable integration of data centres into the energy system, (II) deployment of digital and AI solutions across the energy value chain, and (III) a data governance framework for cross-border energy data exchange and AI model development. Key provisions include flagship actions such as a model tripartite agreement for data centre grid integration, an EU rating scheme for data centre sustainability, legislative proposals to accelerate smart meter rollout and future-proof electricity bills, development of AI foundation models for grid management, and establishment of an EU framework for simplified cross-border energy data exchange. The Roadmap further addresses cybersecurity of critical energy infrastructure, AI safety oversight, workforce skills, and international cooperation, with implementation to be monitored through an annual Energy Digitalisation Forum and integration into the Energy Union governance framework.AI
