(2003/C 222 E/088) WRITTEN QUESTION E-3507/02 by Giacomo Santini (PPE-DE) to the Council (10 December 2002) Subject: Avian influenza epidemic in Italy The provinces of Verona, Mantua and Brescia are suffering an epidemic of avian influenza caused by a mildly pathogenic strain of the H7N3 virus. So far the influenza is almost exclusively affecting turkey farms.
