Answer given by Mrs Diamantopoulou on behalf of the Commission (7 July 2003) The Commission ensures safety in the workplace by strictly monitoring the application of Community law. In this case, the protection of health and safety of workers in general is covered by framework Directive 89/391/EEC (1) and its individual Directives.
