Question for written answer E-001221/12 to the Commission Kathleen Van Brempt (S&D) (9 February 2012) Subject: Presence of dangerous ESBL enzyme in 99 % of chicken meat Following a large-scale investigation at 140 chicken farms, the Dutch Consumer Association has announced that 139 of them (i.e. 99.3 %) are infected with the ESBL (extended spectrum beta-lactamase) enzyme.
