Question for written answer E-003293/12 to the Commission Auke Zijlstra (NI) (27 March 2012) Subject: The number of people seeking asylum in the EU has risen sharply It appears from the latest Eurostat figures that in 2011 EU Member States collectively received no less than 301 000 applications from refugees seeking asylum in the EU. This shows a sharp increase from 259 000 asylum‐seekers in 2010.
