Question for written answer E-008504/12 to the Commission Philippe Boulland (PPE) (26 September 2012) Subject: Wines labelled ‘Château’ Since 2010, the United States has been calling for a more flexible definition of the word ‘Château’ on bottles of wine. In France, the word ‘Château’ denotes an Appellation d'origine Contrôlée (AOC) wine made 100 % from grapes picked and fermented on site.
