By an act of the legislature approved March 4th, 1846 (P. L. 18íS p. 51), Jeremiah Stull was authorized to construct a dam across the Great Egg Harbor river at May’s Landing, in the county of Atlantic, for the purpose of creating a water-power for the benefit of such mill or mills or other water-works for manufacturing or other purposes as should be thereafter erected by him,
