The evidence given on behalf of the people tends to prove that in October, 1889, the defendant married *533one Sarah V. Hayden in the state of Ohio, and that while she was living, and without having obtained a divorce from her, he married one Ida L. Cook in the state of Hew York. The defendant, who was called as a witness in his own behalf, denied that he married Sarah V.
