after stating the facts, delivered the opinion of the court.

1. The abstract of the clerk or recorder of conveyances in each county of mortgages, deeds of trust, etc., remaining unsatisfied on July 1st of each year was, under the mortgage tax law, made the basis for the assessment thereof for the current year: Hill’s Ann. Laws, § 2755.
