On April 16, 1979, defendant, Jerald Tyus, pleaded guilty to the charge of attempt robbery in violation of sections 8 — 4 and 18 — 1 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, pars. 8 — 4 and 18 — 1) and was placed on probation for a period of 2 years commencing May 7, 1979.
