Defendant John Arthur Kirch appeals from a conviction of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death, on September 7, 1980, of John Schneider, a Wino-na County Deputy Sheriff. After being indicted by the Winona County Grand Jury, Kirch moved for a change of venue. He was tried in Olmsted County District Court, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
