The defendant, Samuel Harris, appeals from the judgment and sentence entered by the circuit court of Lake County, on charges of armed violence and retail theft pursuant to sections 33A — 2 and 16A — 3 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Code) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, pars. 33A — 2, 16A — 3).
