Defendant, Ronnie Wayne Carroll, was charged by indictment with two counts of armed robbery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 18—2), two counts of armed violence (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 33A—1), and one count of attempted murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 8—4(a)).
