MITCHELL, Justice.
The defendant was tried upon a true bill of indictment charging him with the murder of Irma Smith. A jury found the defendant guilty of first degree murder. After a capital sentencing proceeding pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 15A-2000, the same jury recommended a sentence of life imprisonment.
