On August 3, 1990, a two-count indictment was returned in the circuit court of Calhoun County charging defendant Ronald Flaugher with the offense of attempt (first degree murder) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, pars. 8 — 4(a), 9 — l(aXl)) committed on July 8, 1990, against two separate victims.
