On 28 March 1992, Denny Waters was shot and killed by defendant James Carl Richardson while sitting in the driver’s seat of his car. Defendant also shot and wounded Ricky Waters, Denny’s brother and a passenger in the car. The shooting was a culmination of a year-long obsessive pattern of behavior by defendant toward his ex-girlfriend, Renee Scherf.
