After a bench trial in July 1997, defendant, Shavun M. Hawkins, was convicted of criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12 — 13(a)(2) (West 1996)), attempt (criminal sexual assault) (720 ILCS 5/8 — 4(a), 12 — 13(a)(2) (West 1996)), and residential burglary (720 ILCS 5/19 — 3 (West 1996)).
