Plaintiff Atamu Matamua (“Matamua”) filed a complaint on April 28, 1999, alleging that defendant Caribbean Fishing Company (“CFC”), through its manager defendant Carlos Sanchez (“Sanchez”) defamed him. CFC and Sanchez answered on May 14, 1999, and the trial began on November 30, 1999.
