In 1991, the defendant was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and two counts of armed robbery. The Com*332monwealth nol pressed all the charges, however, stating only, “It is in the interests of justice at this time” to do so.
