¶1 Mitel Patel was convicted of attempted second degree rape of a child after he was caught in an *478Internet sting operation conducted by the police. As part of the operation, a Spokane police detective posing as a fictitious 13-year-old girl chatted with Patel over an on-line instant messaging service.
