On October 10, 2005, Sylvia Mazur discovered the body of her eighty-three year old mother, Rose Ann Martowski (victim), on the sofa of her mother’s home in Ware. The victim’s *127skull had been fractured so severely that the entire right side of her skull had collapsed, leaving her brain exposed and her face bloodied.
