Defendant appeals from a judgment of conviction for assault in the fourth degree, ORS 163.160(l)(a), and criminal mistreatment in the first degree, ORS leS^OSClXb).1 Defendant’s first assignment of error challenges the trial court’s refusal to allow defendant “the right to have the jury consider his claim of self-defense,” which includes the refusal to instruct the jury on self-defense.
